READ THIS BOOK!

Splendid Work

A great book for beginners as well as seasoned ceramicistsFor the novice, it covers the the world's history of ceramics. Discusses clay and glaze compositions and gives step
by step explanations of the various techniques from wheel throwing to hand building to making plaster molds for
slip casting.
For the advanced ceramist, there is good information of various kilns and their construction. It offers analysis of
several major clays, frits, and feldspars as well as other useful reference tables including some recipes for
glazes from low fire to high fire.
I first bought the book in '82 as a college freshman and it has proven a valuable aid ever since. It is on the top of
my "required reading" list for anyone interested in getting involved with studio ceramics.

Practical advice for living a life of faithThe topics in this book cover everything from dealing with anxiety to discovering joy. Appropriate and thought-provoking quotataions and scripture passages highlight the well-written text, but it's the practical "I Will" and "Things to Do" sections are what make this different than a typical devotional or inspirational book. Each of these sections give practical suggestions for putting into practice the wisdom from the main text. Even if the reader only follows through on one or two of the ideas here, he or she will be taking real steps toward relational, emotional, and spiritual growth.
Only two small quibbles. The title suggests a book that offers an organized checklist for all of life's many trials. However, with just 66 topics, not every life situation is covered here. (There are three other books in the series, however, targeted specifically for Men, Women, and Teens.) And then there's the subtitle: "The Ultimate Handbook". It seems a bit over-the-top--but I suppose that's what marketing folks get paid for. Nevertheless, once a reader dives into Checklist for Life, he or she will soon discover that this is more than a throwaway read. Recommended for new Christians and those far along in their faith as well. The high quality production makes it a great gift too.

Gives your mind a great way to live life

Great for Teens and their Parents! This book shows these pre-teens how the Bible relates to their lives, wheather it is "over-reacting" (teens don't do that!), "self acceptance", or dealing with rumors, cliques or gossip. These topics can all be found in the Bible, but the Bible is a big book, and this handbook not only covers it, but shows kids where in the Bible to find the answers.
In addition, it talks to the kids using the "proper lingo". Some of the chapter titles are "Dissed" (dealing with respect), "Let's get Real" (dealing with honesty), and "Totally Awesome" (Maintaining a Sense of Wonder).
There are also chapters that are more suited for the high school students such as "Weight of the Wait" (Sex and Intimacy), "The Ex-Files" (Handling breakups), and "Endless Possibilities" (Planning for the Future).
The basketball coaches are so excited about the values and life-coping lessons in this book - those that they are unable to teach at the public school, that they are cancelling basketball practice (one day a week) so the children can attend the study!
My turnout for the study has been about 98% of the 5th thru 8th graders in the whole school................... What else can I say.............. if the kids come to listen, it must be worthwhile!
